Set in a beautiful lagoon in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, the study area contains a remarkable range of natural and nature conservation assets which, taken together, offer the potential for one of the most comprehensive Tourism initiatives in the region with particular reference to the restoration, conservation and enhancement of Natural, Agricultural and Heritage assets alongside an ongoing and transformational program for the nation as a whole.

The Al Asha and Al Uqair initiatives will deliver a proposition supported by sound economic planning and led by experts in related fields, that ensures the protection of sensitive and rare heritage assets and habitats whilst opening this largely undiscovered yet remarkable environment to both domestic and international visitors, offering interpretive and hospitality facilities that represent the leading edge of comparable destinations elsewhere in the world.
